4 Year Old Pupil Without Limbs

Monday, 26 November 2012

A child’s first day at school is a moving day for any parent.

But for four-year-old Harley Lane’s mother and father, the significance could barely be overstated.

Despite losing both his arms and legs in a battle with meningitis which almost claimed his life, Harley is doing his best to lead a normal life.

Harley Lane, who lost his arms and legs to meningitis, is the most popular boy in class. Look closely at his arms, they are artificial.

And yesterday parents Adam and Samantha spoke of how he is settling in at Hazel Grove Primary School near their home in Stockport, Greater Manchester.

‘He’s the most popular kid at school,’ said Mr Lane, 22. ‘All the kids think they are his best friend.

‘They are great and ask lots of questions. At first it was a bit overwhelming for him but he’s settled straight in.

‘He comes in every day telling us he’s done this or that. He loves everything about it because it’s new to him.’ Harley fell ill in May last year with bacterial meningitis.

When septicemia set in, his arms and legs were amputated and his heart stopped three times. Nevertheless he pulled through.

Harley almost died when he was struck down with the bug last year. He now goes to a primary school that has a hygiene room to help him stay infection free

While he was looked after at Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital, a fundraising campaign brought in more than £500,000 to help provide a specially adapted house. In March he was ring-bearer at his parents’ wedding, which had been postponed when he fell ill.

He is now getting used to his prosthetic arms and legs.

‘He’s not totally progressed with them but he’s doing a lot better,’ added Mr Lane, a pub manager.

‘It’s just getting him confident with putting them on and standing on them. He can stand on them a lot more on his own now.’ Staff at the school help Harley move around using his artificial limbs and a wheelchair.

The school has had a ‘hygiene room’ fitted to help him stay infection-free and he is helped by a full-time teaching assistant.

Headteacher Jean Burston said: ‘Harley is settling in really well – he’s got many friends. Our motto is, “Give it all you’ve got” and that’s what he does.’

A boy with his head stuck in a pressure cooker saved after a two-hour rescue operation

Kids should stay out of the kitchen they say. Apparently they should also stay away from kitchen utensils. Meet three-year-old Shivam from Rani Bagh area in northwest Delhi.

The child was at home playing with a pressure cooker when his head accidentally got stuck in it. Hearing him crying his father Sanjay rushed Shivam to a hospital and after two hours of painstaking effort, doctors managed to remove the cooker from his head.

Initially doctors at a local nursing home had tried and failed to release Shivam and said they had never seen such a case. Family members then took the boy to Bhagvan Singh Hospital in Pitampura. A team of twelve doctors used equipment like saw, screwdriver etc to rescue the child. A large amount of cotton was used to ensure that the child did not get hurt.

Strange facts-Six year old girl who has had three hearts

At the age of six, Amy Ferguson is already on her third heart.

She lost the first to a rare condition at the age of two and her body rejected the replacement, leading to a second transplant. Several times she proved doctors wrong when they said they did not expect her to live.

Now she is in training for her school sports day and determined to do well.

'After everything’s she’s been through she’s still a happy girl who just wants to get on with life,’ said her mother Veronica, 39.Amy fell ill in 2006 and was expected to die within 24 hours. Doctors diagnosed an infection of the aorta which was destroying her heart. She received a transplant at Great Ormond Street Hospital in London. But, despite anti-rejection drugs her body would not accept the organ and two years later she was back in the same hospital, where her mother was told she needed another transplant.

Despite severe complications, the nine-hour operation was a success and last week Amy returned to school in Dublin.

Frog-like Baby Was Born In Nepal

Thursday, 2 September 2010

A frog-like baby was born in Nepal two years ago but died after half an hour of its birth. I pity the baby; his father didn’t care about the baby’s death and parading the poor freak in a pot around the streets.

On 2006, this bizarre-looking baby was born in Charikot, the headquarters of Dolakha district, attracting a huge number of onlookers to witness the astonishing sight.

The neck-less baby with its head almost totally sunk into the upper part of the body and with extraordinarily large eyeballs literally popping out of the eye-sockets, was born to Nir Bahadur Karki and Suntali Karki at the Gaurishnkar Hospital in Charikot. The Karki couple is a permanent resident of Dolakha’s Bhirkot VDC. The bizarre baby, however, died after half an hour of its birth, Suntali, the mother, informed. It was taken to the hospital after its death.

The news about such a baby being brought to the hospital spread like wildfire and there were hundreds gathered at the hospital to have a look. The police had to be deployed to control the crowd. The baby weighed 2kg at birth and was born after the normal nine-month gestation period. Suntali, already a mother of two normal daughters, was not suffering from any illness during the pregnancy. Nir Bahadur, the father, says he does not feel any remorse for the newly-born baby’s death. “I am happy that nothing happened to my wife,” he said.
